[19:18] * The Abh transport ship Aurora has confirmed they've reached the planet they'd set out to investigate: almost 99% covered by water with only scattered islands. Abundant lifesigns though.

[19:26] *** Suddenly, a continuous beam of green energy lances up from the planet's surface and RAKES along the side of the Aurora, blowing open a MASSIVE rift amidships!

[19:44] *** Everyone is knocked to the floor again as the ship lurches hard as another series of huge thuds and crashes ring out from a different part of the ship: the Aurora had just taken ANOTHER impact that penetrated the hull armor. The other sounds had been from the affected compartments decompressing explosively.

[19:46] * Chibi-Catri looks outside. She sees dozens of slim, blue-haired humanoids wearing blue and grey coveralls and delicate-looking tiaras rushing to the other lifepod chambers further up and down the passage.
[19:47] *** One of the Abh, a youthful-looking woman with orange eyes and bobbed cyan hair is running towards them at a full sprint. She looks like she's barely out of her teens and her tiara is gone, revealing the small gem-like sensory organ in the middle of her forehead.

[19:50] * Rowas Chinree is one of the junior officers onboard the ship and had been assigned to act as the Kits' adjunct and minder while they were all onboard. During the past few days, she'd become the primary target of a number of playful pranks instigated by Alexianna, Catriona, and Natalia, as well as having to contend with Sylvester's curiosity when he started exploring parts of the ship he wasn't supposed to.
[19:52] * Rowas Chinree has conducted herself as appropriately as possible...although last night she and Chibi-AnTil DID secretly collaborate together in order to play a prank on his sisters in return. The "Exploding Jell-O Dessert" was a grand success, resulting in three very messy Kitsune girls and a toddler-Kit who couldn't stop laughing for several hours.

The passenger section of the escape pod isn't especially roomy, consisting of a windowless room eight-by-ten feet housing an automatic nav-computer display, a basic nanofabricator, a small storage compartment, and eight acceleration seats with built-in "crashweb" harnesses.

[20:00] * Rowas Chinree technically doesn't have to answer. As nobles, the Kits outrank her socially and the Aurora is a vessel of the Labule, NOT the Fleet. As such military rank was the only rank that matters. Still, from what she'd seen for herself AnTil is smarter and more disciplined than a great many recruits she'd met in the past.
[20:02] <Rowas Chinree> It's very bad. The ship is seriously damaged. I can't hear the engines and we're definitely on auxiliary power, so we're probably falling into the planet's gravity well. I haven't been able to contact the bridge, so I don't know for certain what else is happening. We never engaged in any evasive actions, so we were either crippled on the first strike or we're NOT under attack from another ship.

[20:04] * Rowas Chinree helps Catriona push/pull a rather large dufflebag through the pressure door. "We were struck twice. It is was another ship it wouldn't keep shooting us if boarding and capture was the intention.

[20:09] * Rowas Chinree GRAB Chibi-AnTil without hesitation and SHOVES him as hard as she can through the open hatch. She then slams her fist down on the door controls, yanks on the manual release lever that'll engage the escape pod's auto-launch system, and steps back.
[20:11] * Rowas Chinree is then blasted backwards as the entire compartment explosively decompresses into space, all of the air venting out in less than a minute. Fortunately, her final action saves everyone and the escape pod rockets towards the planet.
[20:16] * Chibi-Nat wails as the escape pod starts shuddering and rocking non-stop, throwing her around within her seat. Fortunately, the memory foam padding and flexible crashweb harness will keep her safely restrained, but everything about what's going on is absolutely terrifying to her!!!

[20:26] * Chibi-AnTil ignores his sister and concentrates on making sure she's secured properly.
[20:27] * Chibi-AnTil knows what Catriona means though: the buffeting and rocking means that they're already starting to hit the upper atmosphere. The denser layers were coming next and then the REAL turbulence would begin.
[20:27] * Chibi-AnTil rushes to his own chair and starts to get in.
[20:28] *** The pod suddenly decelerates so hard that Chibi-AnTil loses his balance and gets pinned to the floor.
[20:29] * Chibi-AnTil struggles and strains against the relentless G-forces and every other sound is drowned out by a steady roar just outside the hull. He tries to drag himself back into his seat, and Gwen grabs onto his wrist and doesn't let go for an instant.
[20:31] *** Without warning, there's a HUGE bang from outside and the escape pod seems to JUMP. For a moment, Chibi-AnTil finds himself suspended in midair. Then gravity reasserts itself and he strikes the floor hard enough to knock himself unconscious instantly.

[20:29] *** For most of the day, the escape pod had been sitting still, not moving. It had landed safely on the planet, but at a very slight angle and occasionally they could hear faint sounds of things bumping against the outer hull. Overall, everyone was alive and well. Even AnTil had regained consciousness soon after they'd touched down.
[20:31] <Fiona> I just finished checking over the pod's computer systems. Our communications and locator beacon were both damaged in the crash. I'm not sure if we have the tools to fix them. The fusion battery is operational though, so we're not running out of power any time soon. As for the environmental sensors, it looks good outside.
[20:34] <Chibi-Sylvester> Define "good"
[20:36] <Fiona> Outside temperature is currently 28 degrees Celcius and the sun is up. Winds are at ten miles per hour, the atmosphere is a breathable oxygen-nitrogen composition slightly below Terran-relative density. Oxygen levels are slightly higher than Terran-relative and carbon dioxide levels are a bit lower, but neither of them are outside livable parameters.
[20:38] <Fiona> We are currently floating in what appears to be a sea of some kind, lodged in what looks like some kind of rock outcropping or coral reef. We are definitely floating on genuine water with a high salt content, lots of life forms, and a high amount of bacteria of unknown type.
[20:39] <Chibi-Catri> So the water has a lot of fish in it?
[20:40] * Chibi-Nat perks her ears up instantly at the mention of her favorite kind of food.

[20:42] <Fiona> We'll have to catch some for analysis. But the basic scans do suggest at least partial biochemical compatibility, so we should be able to eat the food here without any problems. At least in the short term.

[20:44] <Gwen> Until we know more about it we should avoid exposure to it as much as possible. We should avoid eating any raw foods of any kind and keep our hostile environment suits on as often as we can.

[20:53] * Chibi-Sylvester and Chibi-Catri have both been sorting through all of their available gear and supplies, consisting of a large pile of vacuum-sealed foil packages, a few dozen plastic bottles, a dozen small plastic cases, a pair of folding shovels, flashlights, their personal dataslates, a basic tool kit, and what is VERY obviously a rifle of some kind!

[21:01] <Gwen> The soap and anti-microbial stuff might be really helpful.
[21:03] <Chibi-Sylvester> We've got six basic first aid kits. The good news is that they each have an Enhanced Bandage included among all the usual gauze rolls, tools, and medications.
[21:05] <Chibi-Catri> The flashlights are actually pretty dinky. So they're not going to be much good but at least they're waterproof. The shovels are none other than Imperium-standard 9-70 entrenching tools, guaranteed to last for centuries of hard use!

[21:06] <Fiona> And as clubs. And prybars in a pinch.

[21:15] <Chibi-Catri> Our dataslates are all the ones we were given when we boarded the Aurora. They're all reinforced models with armored casings and waterproofed, so Daddy must have prepared them specifically for our original training mission. We just need to start them up.

[21:30] <Chibi-AnTil> Uhh, are those normally standard issue on all escape pods within the Frybar? Because Abh nano-fabricators that small are extremely expensive from what I've heard.
[21:31] <Gwen> Maybe this was installed specifically for our training mission? It would make a lot of sense to be able to make key gear on-site in case we ran into anything seriously unexpected. Remember, they did tell us that our training mission was only supposed to be "low-to-moderate" risk.

[21:35] <Chibi-AnTil> So it's not only about wilderness survival but resource prioritization too. They were planning to give us aids to use but with limited quantities to keep things from being too easy and put us all in the position of needing to gather resources. They didn't want us turning this into some kind of camping trip.

[21:40] <Fiona> We're stationary. That hasn't changed. We're still at sea level, so we're not sinking. Can't tell how deep the water is, but it can't be too deep since we're stuck on something solid. Apart from those scans I mentioned earlier there's not much else I can tell everyone.

[20:04] *** the blob is Miles tall and wide and can be seen throughout Japan, Korea, and Eastern China.
[20:12] * The meteors aren't meteors at all as they start decelerating and changing course once they reach the stratosphere.
[20:14] * The meteors are actually Federation fighters and bombers launched from the Aika in high orbit. All of them begin to converge on Tokyo, priming their missiles and weapons.
[20:15] *** then, you might want to rechange course, because only the outer edge of the blob is in Tokyo.
[20:17] * The fighters and bombers adjust course to head towards the outermost edge of the blob. Meanwhile, what looks like a faint star is moving into position directly overhead in the sky.
[20:21] * Suddenly a great pillar of fire streaks down from space, aiming at the edge of teh blob FARTHEST away from Tokyo. PARTICLE BEAM LANCE FROM THE STEADFAST INCOMING!!!!

[20:38] *** the blob starts sending multiple arms after the formation, with intent on absorbing them into the mass.
[20:41] * The Starfuries fire afterburners, while the Marauder bombers return fire with their top and rear turrets. All of the aircraft weave back and forth, firing off the rest of their armor-piercing and high-explosive missiles.
[20:42] * A Marauder bomber is hit by some arms. What happens to it next?
[20:43] *** the blob Absorbs the marauder bomber to add to its mass.
[20:44] *** the blob only grows very slightly as a result.
[20:44] * The crew are naturally freaking out and firing every weapon at their disposal.

[20:46] * The rest of the aircraft quickly start backing off, with the Marauders firing off the last of their missiles and climbing back into orbit to rearm while the Starfuries continue to strafe the Blob from long range with pulse-lasers, making sure they stay at least several miles away as much as possible.

Various undersea plants cling to the rocks and masses of coral all around, and in the near distance are visible larger coral formation that resemble cones or straightened-out french horns. There's fish too!
[20:32] *** Quite a few fish as a matter of fact. Some look like boomerangs with faces and mouths in the curve, some look like semi-transparent blobs with fins and eyes, and a few look like brownish undersea birds with scales instead of feathers.

[20:34] * Chibi-Catri slowly and carefully walks along the bottom towards an object that looks like a piece of twisted, warped sheet of metal.
[20:35] * Chibi-AnTil tries swimming. The air tanks give some buoyancy, but without swim fins of any kind his overall speed is pretty slow.

[20:55] <Chibi-Catri> ♦ First thing's first! Let's get what we've found so far back to the others.
[20:58] * Chibi-Catri and Chibi-AnTil both take the mushrooms and hull fragment back to the knotted rope, put the mushrooms inside a carryall bag and fasten the rope to both it and the hull fragment. They they pull themselves up the rope, climb back onto the loading steps of the pod, and pull the rope up a minute or so later.
[21:07] *** Something LARGE then swims through the area of the escape pod, moving slowly and ponderously, outmassing all of the other fish nearby by several hundred pounds and making a sound like distorted laughter as it swims past, leaving a strange yellow-green discoloration in the water in its wake that takes a few minutes to dissipate...but kills ANY fish that got caught in it prior to its disappearance.

[20:55] * Chibi-Alex motions for everyone to follow her as she approaches one of the stumpy ugly trees. Its surface is smooth and lumpy and has a texture like hard leather rather than wood.

[20:58] * Chibi-Alex detaches her knife from the pole and uses it to cut a small hole into the side of the tree. Then she takes one of the teeth (which is well over six inches long, slightly curved, and quite dagger like) and slowly pushes it into the hole, rotating it slowly as she does so.
[20:58] * Chibi-Alex then pulls out the tooth. A syrupy sap starts to ooze out of the tree.

[21:00] <Chibi-Alex> We call them "bulbo trees". The sap tastes kinda bitter, but it's got a lot of water in it and helps keep the insects off of you.
